Community building—with both a school-wide focus and more narrow focus on teacher and staff morale—has been a focus of my work for the past four years. During that time, as a class sponsor, SGA sponsor, and Homecoming sponsor, I have been charged with protecting the tradition of Hudson High, a proud community school that boasts many alumni who come back to work there. In that capacity, I have planned, organized, promoted, and monitored numerous events like the annual Homecoming Week festivities, the Lip Sync Contest, and the Homecoming Dance, activities that require extensive fundraising and orchestration. These activities serve as motivation for students to earn good grades and to consistently attend.

I have organized teacher appreciation week and have earned positive feedback from teachers; the simple things we can do for our teachers helps them to be productive and will encourage retention. But even more narrowly, and perhaps more importantly, I have served as a mentor, both formally and informally, supporting fellow teachers, helping guide their planning, supporting their work with students, modeling and promoting the high expectations we must communicate to our students.
