Professionalism

One of my greatest pleasures as a teacher is the opportunity and responsibility I have to further my own learning. Since I started teaching, I have sought every opportunity available to me to attend trainings—I’ve attended two weeklong AP summer institutes, two AP Annual Conferences, an AP Summer institute for Administrators, the NCTE Annual Conference, the Florida Education Technology Conference, and too many day long trainings to name. But my greatest growth as an educator has come from my involvement with a team of educators to build curriculum based on our new standards, and my work building curriculum and professional development for my own school and my district. When I have taken the time to build curriculum with a team or professional development for my colleagues, I have almost always taken more away from the experience than as just a participant. And now I have the honor of seeing my unit plans published to the district for all English IV teachers to use.

I am an acknowledged leader for secondary English teachers in Pasco County, serving on varied committees over the last 12 years, including textbook adoption, and I earned the distinction of Hudson High School Teacher of the Year for 2011 – 2012.
